Fans and cooling fins safeguard avionics from overheating, but to work correctly, the cooling components themselves need to be protected from particulates and contaminants. Cooling fans and fins work effectively with Donaldson electronic air filters removing dust and water droplets from intake air. Our filters help maintain the clean environment that’s critical for efficient operation of avionics systems.

Overheating can shorten the service life of avionics. To help prevent premature replacement, fans and cooling fins are used to disperse, cool, and remove heat that’s generated by electronic equipment (EE) within the airframe. If particulates or contaminants get into the avionics system, it can reduce the efficiency of the cooling devices, potentially causing premature maintenance or electronic components to overheat.

Dust can flow into the aircraft during maintenance or from the pressurized cabin, and vented external air can allow water droplets to enter when aircraft are on the ground. On commercial fixed wing aircraft, business jets and some rotorcraft, electronic air filters are used to capture dust and water droplets in the air surrounding avionics.
